During lunch periods at Chaparral High School, Student Activities Coordinator Cantresa Scineaux rolled her mobile desk around the school cafeteria seeking out 18-year-old students interested in registering to vote.
In Killeen ISD, high school government teachers are making voter registration forms available for students old enough to vote.
Tuesday, September 15 was National Voter Registration Day, and the state of Texas is urging schools to provide voter registration cards to students eligible to vote.

Voters must be 18 by November 3 to cast a ballot in the upcoming mid-term election.
In Killeen ISD high schools, government teachers are providing time for students to fill out forms.
At Chaparral, there was also a chance during lunch as Scineaux greeted students during lunch.
“I’m very passionate about it because I believe young adults need to have their voices heard,” she said, explaining the importance of registering to vote.
“It’s easy to complain about being told what to do, but there is power in your voice. All you have to do is register to vote and actually go vote.”
“I don’t care who you vote for, but I want you to get in the habit of voting and to vote your interest. That’s what voting is all about."
The Texas Election Code requires public and private high schools to distribute registration forms to eligible student voters twice a year.
